Yves Ullens

By its nature, the forest is a place for meditation. It inspires painters, philosophers, as well as poets such as Victor Hugo in The Contemplations (Les Contemplations), or Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Reveries of a Solitary Walker (Rêverie d’un promeneur solitaire). Yves Ullens also loves to wander in nature, especially among the majestic trees of the Sonian forest nearby his home, in order to capture the rich colors changing over the seasons. Each pilgrimage has become a ritual. The artist goes in search of a vibration, a light and a natural tone reminding his early abstract aesthetic photographic research that he has been exploring for over ten years. The Sonian Forrest Four Seasons #1 presented for the Eagleart – Elyx project would be the very first monumental sculpture-column realized for this theme. I have been working on the Sonian Forest Project for the last thirteen years. My photographs allow the viewer and the creator to explore
feelings through abstraction. I see photography very much like a painter and I use my camera like a brush.
